Bridgwater & Taunton Canal Litter Pick
To all our volunteers,
Following Government guidelines for us all to social-distance ourselves due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) we will be cancelling our Litter Picks for the foreseeable future.
We need to put our volunteers and our own health and safety first.
As soon as it is safe to do, we will be back up and running. Please keep checking our social media and website for further updates.

Location: We will start at the YMCA in Bridgwater and follow the canal towards the end of Taunton Road.
Timings: 9.50am until 12.30pm. We aim to start at 10am sharp. There will be a full briefing for the litter pick at 9.50am – everyone must be present for this. If you wish to collect litter from the towpath, please arrive at 9.40am so you can collect your litter pickers and bag rings etc. To find out more about towpath volunteering, please visit our volunteer page.
For people who are borrowing equipment from the YMCA such as kayaks and canoes, please arrive at 9.30am. We will need to provide you with the correct size buoyancy aid and show you which kayak/canoe you are using. To book a kayak/canoe, please find out more about it over on our volunteer page and use the boat booking form to book your kayak/canoe. The last day to book equipment is April 10.
Additional information:
We will be collecting rubbish from both the waterway and the towpath.
If you have any litter pickers/gloves and bin bags, please bring them along. However, we do have bin bags, bag hoops and litter pickers for people to use. We also have reusable gloves for people to purchase for £2 per pair.

The Purplespoon Café at the YMCA will give each volunteer who attends the litter pick 10% off hot food & hot drinks on April 18. We will hand out a voucher when you sign on to the litter pick and it can be used before and after the event.
The Inland Waterways Association West Country Branch will also be supporting us by supplying volunteers and a flat work boat with on-board rubbish, storage containers. They will also dispose of the rubbish removed from the canal and towpath.
No one is too old or young to join but we do ask that all children are supervised by adults.
