We were overwhelmed that 50 eco-warriors from Bridgwater last Saturday (September 29, 2018) helped us clear 1,220 plastic bottles, 1,085 drinks cans and 240 glass bottles from the town’s canal and towpath.
Each month we organise a litter pick along the Bridgwater & Taunton Canal and with the support of the local community and volunteers from The West Country Branch of the Inland Waterway Association (IWA) compared to our August event we think we collected about 30% more litter.
Other items we collected included a child’s scooter, a bike, a road sign, four road cones, a car wheel, a pallet, two cushions, two oven shelves, two black bags of clothes and handbags and about 40kg of other waste such as plastic bags, crisp packets, dog poo bags, paper and card.
This was an impressive haul of rubbish and we couldn’t do it without the support of our volunteers, the members from The West Country Branch of the IWA and the YMCA, who lend us the kayaks and canoes. A huge ‘thank you’ to you all.
